Former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and his wife, Jessica, have shared a deeply emotional tribute to their late son, Miller, following his sudden and unexplained death.

The 14-year-old passed away while on a family vacation in Costa Rica, leaving behind a community of family, friends, and teammates mourning his loss.

Mystery deepens around Miller Gardner’s death

The tragedy occurred on March 21 at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, where the Gardners had been staying.

The family’s grief is compounded by the lingering mystery surrounding Miller’s passing.

The teenager fell ill alongside his parents and older brother, Hunter, after they all experienced severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea following dinner at an outdoor restaurant.

Despite desperate efforts by medics to revive him, Miller could not be saved.

As authorities in Costa Rica continue to investigate, the Gardners have chosen to honor their son’s memory through a heartfelt obituary and a call for donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“The void Miller’s passing leaves in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, teachers, coaches, and others will be felt for years,” the family wrote.

“The Gardner family will forever cherish the places they visited, the people they met, the friends they made, and the memories they created together.”

Authorities in Costa Rica have conducted an autopsy, but results may take months to be finalized due to a backlog caused by rising homicide cases in the country.

Investigators have ruled out recreational drugs or alcohol as factors and are now examining whether Miller had a pre-existing bacterial infection or an adverse reaction to medication given to treat his symptoms.

As the Gardners await answers, they remain focused on keeping Miller’s memory alive.

“Miller’s time here with them was brief, but his spirit will carry on forever through those who were impacted by the way he lived,” the family’s tribute concluded.

The investigation into Miller’s death is ongoing, and the family continues to seek closure while honoring his legacy.
