Just when it is news that Gervonta Davis behaved with unusual courtesy towards his opponent Lamar Roach and his mother during the press conference prior to their fight in Brooklyn on Saturday for the WBA lightweight title, he is also being talked about for his deep animosity towards one of the central figures in boxing today, Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chief Turki Alalshikh.
Will there be a fight with Shakur Stevenson?
It all started when ‘His Excellency’ Alalshikh decided not to invite Tank to the THE RING magazine awards gala in London, something that the Baltimore, Maryland boxer has not forgiven him for, to the point that he immediately reproached him by tagging him in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Why didn’t you invite everyone? But you invited the people you deal with… F*** you! Stop eating d***“, he said with special fury.
Turki only managed to say that he and the company he represents were still willing to do business with him, especially given the possibility of a meeting with Shakur Stevenson, something that due to Tank’s persistent anger seems increasingly unlikely to happen. Nevertheless, until very recently, Davis was still expectant about a possible negotiation that would lead him to face Stevenson, but surely he was stopped in his tracks by the enormous compensation he surely requested.
“They sold their soul to the devil”
A test of Davis’ still-hot take on the matter came just hours before his meeting with Roach, as his opinion of Turki has not only not changed, but has hardened and this was evidenced in a clip posted by Happy Punch. Gervonta spoke in general about boxers close to Turki and even spoke about the group photo in London: “That shit looked like some devil shit. It looks like they’ve sold their soul. It’s crazy,” he said.
Evidently, these recent words from Tank constitute quite a position, from which he could only come out as they say colloquially ‘eating sweet potatoes’. Although coming from ‘Tank’, everything seems to indicate that this will not happen. Or will it?
