The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to defend their World Series title, and to do so they are shoring up some positions, and the monarchs agreed with the Reds on a trade to receive rookie Mike Sirota, with Dodgers sending second baseman Gavin Lux to Cincinnati.
Lux ends a decade with the Dodgers, although injuries have plagued him in recent years. Lux got off to a slow start at the plate in his first season after the ACL injury, hitting .213 with a .562 OPS in the first half.
Lux returned in 2024 and was expected to be the Dodgers’ shortstop again, but was moved to second base, where he was paid $1.22 million.
Change of scenery and back to (near) home
In an interview with Dodgers Nation, Gavin Lux admits that it was not easy to receive the news of his departure from Los Angeles to move to the Reds team.
“Obviously, for the last nine or 10 years, the Dodgers are the only thing I’ve known … At first it was a bit shocking. It’s a big deal, there’s a lot going on.“
Lux could enter the Reds’ rotation, as in addition to being a second baseman, he can also play shortstop. He does not see this change in a bad light, as he will be able to spend more time with his family, who live in Wisconsin.
“Without a doubt, those little details help and are important. Being close to home is great. I think if I have enough time and knowledge, I can be ready to play where these guys need me.”
Lux was crowned with the Dodgers as Major League champion in 2020 and 2024, and Cincinnati will be his second team in the major leagues
