A former teammate of Caitlin Clark has tried to set the record straight over a dramatic situation involving Angel Reese.
Kate Martin and Reese came up against each other in January at Unrivaled and Martin did a particularly harsh challenge on Reese that supposedly really angered the Chicago Sky star.
Martin is a former teammate of Clark from her Iowa Hawkeyes days, and reports claimed that Reese wanted Martin kicked out of the league for her challenge.
A post did the rounds on social media which read: “SHOCKING: Angel Reese calls for the league to kick out Kate Martin after the former Iowa star sent her ‘Back to the Bayou’ in intense matchup in unrivaled debut.”
The claim was completely fabricated, but women’s basketball fan @recruit.the.hood, who has a prominent online presence, shared the story without doing enough research.
Martin then got in touch to clear up the situation: “Hey man, that post about Angel wanting me out of Unrivaled is completely untrue. I try to stay out of social media BS but I couldn’t let that one slide. I don’t like misinformation like that out there,” the screenshot read.
A big apology
A long statement then came from @recruit.the.hood on Instagram, apologizing for the whole situation.
“i feel like such an idiot… i want to apologize to @angelreese5 because i criticized her the other day thinking that she wanted Kate out of the league… and kate sent me this message today and i just felt so bad,” the statement began.
“i try to post things that are factual but in this case i missed… nobodys fault but mine… and the crazy part is most of my followers know that im such a big angel fan… love angel reese and all you have to do is scroll down back on my page and from the start of my page (2021) i supported her and showcased her amazing basketball talent from the start.
“imagine the information being spread about her from people who genuinely hate her? thats the scary part… and i fell for it.
“i def promise to do better in the future and make sure im 100% certain of things before i post them… i feel awful but i would never post anything for clicks and views… honestly im thrilled to death when just one person likes my post… i know my real followers will know that, but tonight im just feeling so bad that i was dumb enough to fall for mis-info.”
