After all the media attention they received weeks earlier with the signing of Juan Soto, the New York Mets are once again the focus of a new soap opera, with Pete Alonso as the new protagonist.

Despite being one of the most valuable elements of the New York ninth, everything indicates that Alonso’s story with the orange and blue team has come to an end, as Scott Boras, the first baseman’s agent, rejected the offer that the Mets had made.

The Mets intend to pay $70 million and a three-year contract, but Alonso’s camp opted to decline the offer, especially for what the Mets paid for Juan Soto, becoming the highest-paid player in MLB.

“I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he’s a pretty solid first baseman. He’s still a pretty good athlete, but I think today’s first baseman is more athletic overall than they used to be.”

Scott Boras would be negotiating Alonso’s departure to the Toronto Blue Jays, which would be a blow against the Mets who are looking to reach a World Series again, after 24 years of absence.

O’Grady noted that Alonso should listen to a second offer from the Mets, who are looking to take care of their resources, and are aware that

“I’m not exactly sure what his numbers were last year, I think they were down a little bit compared to his best years. But I guess he’s waiting for more years or more money than some of these teams are willing to accept for whatever reason
