It was to be expected that the big names in boxing would continue to voice their opinions on the much-talked-about and much-watched fight betweenJake Paul and former heavyweight champion, now retired, Mike Tyson. The most recent was courtesy of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who did nothing but mock the ‘YouTuber’ live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“I’d knock you out in two rounds”
The famous ‘Money‘ claimed that the fight was not serious and only got views because “it was free on Netflix”. Of course, Jake Paul’s response could not wait a second and he lashed out on his X account against the retired boxer and five-division champion who went undefeated: “You’re a bum. Deji gave you a black eye at an event where there were 4,000 people. Deji, hahaha. I’d knock you out in two rounds and you can’t even smell Mike Tyson’s toe,” he said in his characteristic tone and manner.
Jake Paul was referring to fellow British YouTuber and boxer Oladeji Daniel Olatunji, aka ‘Deji’, but that’s not the point, it’s the grudge that he is beginning to hold against ‘Money’ for making this and other comments about what he considers to be the greatest achievement of his career in the ring, which was actually a media and marketing achievement, rather than a boxing one, but that’s another story.
However, Paul decided to take the easy way out instead of holding on to the narrative of a showdown: he decided to discredit Money for his money. “I would be mad too… you spend billions and you can’t even get close,” Paul said in reference to Mayweather’s real estate business.
Substantial differences in honor of the truth
While it is true that the difference between the numbers of the two is large, it is not possible to judge without emphasizing the eras, since in the era of streaming it is easier to make the numbers that Paul boasts and that ‘Money’ did not achieve, but in the case of Mayweather it is a case of pure and hard pay on PPV, for which he earned a large amount of the millions that now nourish his fortune of 450 million dollars.
