Floyd Mayweather has never been one to play it safe. Whether it’s flaunting his wealth on social media, retiring undefeated, or walking into the political ring, he does things on his own terms. His latest move? Publicly backing Donald Trump-again.
During an interview on Fox Business, Mayweather called Trump “the best president we’ve ever had”and praised his business skills. Predictably, the internet had plenty to say about it. Some fans applauded his confidence, but others weren’t as thrilled. The backlash was swift, with critics accusing him of turning his back on the Black community.
Mayweather, however, doesn’t seem bothered. Shortly after Trump shared a clip of the interview on Truth Social, the boxing icon posted a screenshot on X with nothing but a emoji-sending a clear message that he isn’t backing down.
50 Cent couldn’t resist the roast
While Mayweather may not care about the backlash, one person who definitely noticed was 50 Cent. The rapper, known for his unfiltered humor and long-running beef with Mayweather, took to Instagram to poke fun at his former friend-turned-rival.
“Yo, you know how when you’re in school and a kid eats the crayons? Now you see what happens when they grow up,”he joked, before adding, “Spell BEST PRESIDENT, champ!”-a not-so-subtle callback to past rumors about Mayweather’s literacy struggles.
50 Cent’s stance on Trump has wavered over the years. Back in 2020, he briefly suggested supporting Trump for tax reasons before backtracking after public pressure. But one thing remains consistent: his willingness to troll Mayweather at every opportunity.
Mayweather’s unapologetic stance
For Mayweather, the drama is nothing new. He’s been aligned with Trump for years, attending his inauguration in 2017 and publicly defending him against critics. He’s never been one to worry about public perception, and this situation is no different.
Whether this endorsement affects his legacy remains to be seen. But one thing is clear-Mayweather isn’t losing any sleep over the backlash.
