Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, recently announced the birth of their third child, a baby girl named Golden Raye, on January 12.
The couple, who are also parents to Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes II, 2, have stuck to their metallic-inspired naming theme, drawing both admiration and criticism from fans.
Online reactions to the unique naming theme
Golden Raye’s name quickly ignited discussions on social media, with some fans humorously pointing out a perceived “ranking” among the siblings. Critics noted that the names Sterling, Bronze, and Golden might inadvertently suggest a hierarchy.

“So they named their kids second, third, and first?” one fan remarked.
Others speculated on how the names might affect sibling dynamics.
“Bronze and Sterling are going to hate Golden,” added another.
“Way to make Bronze feel like the third favorite child for all of eternity,” were the thoughts of another fan.
Despite the playful criticism, Patrick and Brittany have shared the sentimental reasoning behind their unique name choices. During a press conference, Patrick revealed that his younger brother, Jackson Mahomes, suggested the nickname Bronze to align with Sterling.
“It fit perfectly,” Patrick explained.
“It gives him his own identity while keeping a connection to his sister.”
The Mahomes’ distinctive naming theme didn’t begin with their children-it started years ago with their two dogs, Steel and Silver.
Brittany shared in a 2023 Instagram Q&A that she named Steel while in college and initially considered naming her second dog Sterling. However, she decided to reserve the name for her future daughter.
“I wanted it to fit with Steel perfectly,” she explained.
The Mahomes’ love story dates back to their high school years. They began dating in 2012 and even attended prom together. The couple got engaged in 2020, shortly after Patrick’s first Super Bowl win. Recently, Brittany has gained attention for her friendship with Taylor Swift, who is dating Mahomes’ teammate, Travis Kelce.
As the Mahomes family grows, their unique naming tradition continues to captivate fans-proving that when it comes to family, they always shine brightly.
