From the baseball mound to the football field, two of America’s sports icons, Clayton Kershaw and Matthew Stafford, are turning heads.
The duo usually do so with their sporting achievements in baseball and football, but this time it’s for their uncanny resemblance and a lifelong friendship that some fans are only just discovering.
On Friday night, Kershaw said an emotional goodbye to Los Angelese Dodgers fans as he took the mound for the final regular-season home start of his 18-year career. It comes after he announced his decision to retire from the game of baseball at the end of the season.
Kershaw, the longtime ace of the Dodgers, is one of the most dominant pitchers of his generation. With multiple Cy Young Awards, a World Series ring, and countless strikeouts under his belt, he’s a staple of modern baseball.
As a result there were plenty of celebrities in attendance for the occasion, including Stafford, who first made his name with the Detroit Lions and later with the Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl in 2022.
Even though Stafford and the Rams play the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday, the QB made sure he found his way over to Dodgers Stadium to support his lifelong friend before departing.
Both were raised in Dallas, Texas, and played youth sports in the same leagues growing up. They were classmates and teammates at Highland Park High School, where Stafford was the star quarterback and Kershaw was the go-to pitcher. Even then, their athletic potential was obvious, and so was their friendship.
“To be able to see him do it now, for so many years in LA is incredible,” Stafford said as he was interviewed during the broadcast. “I didn’t want to miss this.”

While the magnitude of seeing Kershaw pitch for the final Dodgers Stadium garnered plenty of discussion on social media, so did the fact that Kershaw and Stafford look almost identical.
When placed side-by-side, Kershaw and Stafford share similar facial features, builds, expressions, and even hairstyles. Their resemblance sparked a wave of memes, reaction videos, and disbelief online, with many people joking that they must be twins separated at birth.
“They low-key look alike,” wrote one fan, while another added: “At first I thought they found a fan in the stands who was a Kershaw lookalike, then I realized it was Matt Stafford.”
Another wrote: “It’s to the point now where Matthew Stafford looks like a guy playing Clayton Kershaw in a Netflix biopic lol.”
Over the years, their careers took them down different paths – Kershaw to the MLB and Stafford to the NFL – but their connection has remained strong. They’ve spoken in interviews about their continued friendship, and they’ve been seen supporting each other at games and events.
