While the Eagles’s season isn’t historically bad for a recent Super Bowl contender, things are far from sunny in Philadelphia. In fact, the situation has deteriorated enough that some analysts are floating a shocking idea: a potential trade for Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
The dubious honor of being the worst defending Super Bowl champion still belongs to the 2022 Los Angeles Rams, who followed their title run with a 5-12 season and missed the playoffs entirely.
The Eagles aren’t in that kind of freefall, but the franchise has stumbled. Their 8-5 record looks respectable on paper, yet a threegame skid has set off alarm bells across the fanbase.
The recent 22-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers was the breaking point. Frustrated fans are demanding a major shift, and in response, analyst Nick Wright has floated a blockbuster idea.
Burrow for Hurts: Wright’s proposal
During an appearance on The Bill Simmons Show, Wright suggested a trade so bold it immediately sparked debate: a straightup quarterback swap between Philadelphia and Cincinnati.
Under Wright’s proposal, the Eagles would send Jalen Hurts and a firstround pick to the Bengals in exchange for Joe Burrow. Simmons acknowledged the idea was intriguing-but only in theory.
“I would want more if I were Cincinnati, considering people are wearing Tanner McKee jerseys in Philadelphia right now,” Simmons said, with Wright agreeing.
When Wright noted that Hurts would at least be available, Simmons quickly corrected him.
“You can’t even make football trades like that-which is, by the way, what the NBA has turned into. With these stupid aprons, they’ve ruined all the fun trades we can make.”
Hurts is at his lowest point with the Eagles
Despite Hurts posting solid individual performances over his last three outings, the results haven’t translated into wins. Philadelphia has dropped games to the Cowboys, Bears, and Chargers.
What fans found unforgivable were the five turnovers against Los Angeles-four interceptions and a fumble-that sealed the team’s fate.
In Week 15, the Eagles will host the struggling Las Vegas Raiders. A win could buy Hurts more time. A loss, however, might accelerate the sweeping changes many fans are calling for.
