With 13 years in the NBA, it’s fair to say that Draymond Green has seen it all. So, when the Golden State Warriors star saw J.J. Redick lashing out at his players, he couldn’t help but issue a sincere warning, which the Los Angeles Lakers head coach seems to have heeded.

The three-game losing streak hit the Lakers hard. However, the Christmas Day game against the Houston Rockets was the final straw for Redick.

After the game, the head coach didn’t mince words when criticizing his players. Redick’s anger even extended to superstars LeBron James and Luka Doncic, generating concern among fans.

Although Redick was critical of his team after the first two losses, the 119-96 defeat to Houston led him to point to a “lack of effort” from the team. The coach’s outburst did not go unnoticed, and Green offered some words of wisdom.

Green’s advice for Redick

In a recent episode of his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, the Warriors star began by carefully analyzing Redick’s message to his team.

“The thing that he keeps saying is the same,” Green began. “We need to play better on the defensive end. We need to get back on track. We need to guard our men,” he explained.

The Golden State forward acknowledged that Redick has been consistent in his criticism of his team. “It’s the same thing. So, it’s not like he’s ranting about these different things.”

However, he said that this could come at a cost:

“Often, for coaches I’ve seen who call their team out more often than not, they usually lose their locker room. They usually lose the team.”

Redick and the Lakers reacted in time

With the season approaching its midpoint, the Lakers’ margin for error is shrinking. However, the team has already shown signs of a comeback with a victory over the Kings.

The resounding 125-101 win they handed Sacramento in Sunday’s game could mark the turning point for Los Angeles. Just in time to face a tough week ahead.

Although they’ll be playing at home all week, this Tuesday the team will host the Eastern Conference leaders, the Detroit Pistons, and on Friday and Sunday they’ll have back-to-back games against ninth-ranked team in the West, the Memphis Grizzlies.
