In 2016, the Golden State Warriors were on the verge of winning a championship for the second consecutive time. They had a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but after hitting LeBron James, Draymod Green was suspended for Game 5, which they ultimately lost.

Now, a fan has accused the 35-year-old center of repeating history this season. And he responded.

Draymond didn’t mince words

Green is not only active on the court, but also on social media. He was responding to some comments on his official Threads account recently and, on this occasion, responded to a harsh accusation from a user.

Claiming that, just like in 2016, Curry and the franchise will be left without a ring because of Warriors owner Joe Lacob, @expensivebackpackfor30 wrote:

You and Lacob are the biggest reason Stph’s never gonna have a real shot at a fifth [ring emoji],” the post reads.

Just like we were the reasons he never had a shot at 1 huh?,” Green replied without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Draymond had already spoken out about what happened a decade ago on “Checc’n In Podcast Whit Big U” in 2022, acknowledging his mistake: “We lost,” Green said. “I take that on the chin. I cost us a championship. I’m fine with that. I can take that on the chin, no problem. I own up to my mistakes.”

The four-time NBA champion is not having the best of seasons. Averaging 8.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, Green has had several turnovers and has been ejected from games.

However, he seems to want to make amends for this situation. After the Warriors’ last game against the Charlotte Hornets, Green scored 20 points and, along with De’Anthony Melton, who scored another 24, led the team to its third consecutive victory. The defense gave Curry no respite, as he only scored 14 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.

Now, Golden State is preparing to host the Miami Heat (22-20) at Chase Stadium on Monday, January 19.
