Rory McIlroy stole the spotlight this Sunday after conquering the The Masters Tournament, not only for his historic victory but also for the reaction of Donald Trump, who publicly congratulated him and described him as a rising “legend”.
Donald Trump’s message congratulating Rory McIlroy
“Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another Great Championship, The Masters! He performed tremendously under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing,” Trump said.
“With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND! I look forward to watching him compete in two weeks at Doral.”
“The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary, each and every one of them. They should all be proud of the way they played at The Masters this weekend! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The Northern Irishman delivered a high-level performance at the Augusta National Golf Club, building his triumph with two key birdies at Amen Corner. The turning point came at the 12th hole, where he bravely attacked over Rae’s Creek, sticking the ball just over seven feet from the pin for a birdie.
From that point on, McIlroy took control of the tournament. An imposing 350-yard drive on the 13th hole allowed him to extend his lead to three strokes, heading toward a victory that-despite moments of tension, such as his erratic tee shot on the 18th-he ultimately secured with a round of 71 (-1) and a total score of 12-under par (276).
The win carried historic weight: McIlroy became only the fourth player to win the Masters back-to-back, joining legends such as Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus.
One year after completing the Career Grand Slam by defeating Justin Rose, the Northern Irishman once again proved his dominance at Augusta.
“I can’t believe I waited 17 years to win a Green Jacket and now I have two in a row,” he admitted after the victory.
