That is why the Donald Trump administration is working to create its own VPN. Through the website Freedom.gov, anyone will have the necessary tools to bypass restrictions. “An online portal that will allow people in Europe and elsewhere to view content banned by their governments.
It will offer a virtual private network feature to make a user’s traffic appear to originate in the United States,” those responsible for the project told Reuters.

The Freedom.gov portal is under development, but if we access it we can see a message in Spanish: “Information is power. Claim your human right to freedom of expression. Get ready”. This is quite a statement of intent. Donald Trump’s initiative comes just after several European governments reflected on the need to control certain content. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, for example, announced a ban on access to social networks for under-16s.
This measure was heavily criticized by Elon Musk, owner of X, formerly Twitter, and political partner of Donald Trump. They even clashed dialectically on the platform. For its part, the European Union has also shown its intention to increase access controls to these platforms.
