With the 2025 NFL Draft just days away, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that in 2027, Washington DC will host the event on the National Mall.

From the Oval Office, Trump unveiled this news, accompanied by several officials, including Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris.

“The draft is a celebration of one of our country’s most cherished cultural institutions and the most prominent annual event for soccer fans around the world,” Trump said. “Everyone will be watching.”

Having the Draft in Washington is a great and beneficial accomplishment for Commanders, and comes on top of the big news of the completion of the new stadium at RFK Stadium after spending 27 years in Maryland.

Trump even weighed in on the Commanders stadium deal when it was announced and praised the as a “BIG WIN for Washington, DC.”

Considering that last year, the event drew 750,000 fans in Green Bay and this year surpassed 600,000 in Wisconsin, by next year – which will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – and in 2027, that number could climb during the three-day event.

Trump and the NFL

The president of the United States has a great interest in the NFL, and this last time he has been showing even more in this world. In February, he was seen at the Super Bowl where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs and did not miss an opportunity to criticize Taylor Swift.

He recently received Eagles at the White House to celebrate their triumph -and criticized the artist again-, and showed his discontent with the late selection of Shedeur Sanders in the NFL Draft 2025, selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. “What is wrong with the NFL owners, are they stupid?” wrote Trump on Truth Social.

“Deion Sanders was a great college soccer player, and he was even better in the NFL. He’s also a very good, crafty, smart coach! So, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has phenomenal genes and is poised for greatness. He should be picked IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Best of luck, Shedeur, and cheers to your wonderful father!” said Trump.
