Los Angeles Dodgers continue to be on a roll after securing the coveted signature of Japanese jewel Roki Sasaki, and on Sunday they added pitcher Tanner Scott to their roster, who will add his arm to a bullpen that was seemingly complete, but will strengthen their aspirations to repeat the World Series title.
Tanner agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal, and with his addition, the Los Angeles team adds a closer who will compete with Blake Treinen, as he is an All-Star with 18 saves under his belt, in 44 appearances with the Miami Marlins last season, who had been traded to the San Diego Padres at the deadline and was being pursued by the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.
The Dodgers had remained relatively quiet after adding Blake Snell to their rotation and re-signing Teoscar Hernandez, waiting for the response of Roki Sasaki, who was the most sought-after player among the available free agents, and with Scott they added the best reliever remaining on the list.
The Dodgers’ pitching will be scary in MLB
If the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered from anything in the 2024 playoffs, it was in their starting rotation, as they had only two healthy starters in Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler (now in Boston), but next season they are aiming for a six-starter plan.
Assuming Clayton Kershaw agrees to return from free agency for one more year, the Dodgers rotation for 2025 is set to be:
- Blake Snell
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto
- Tyler Glasnow
- Roki Sasaki
- Shohei Ohtani
If Kershaw returns and as long as injuries are kind to him and the rest of the pitchers, he would be the sixth starter, but in the bullpen there will be several pitchers with the talent to be starters: Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Bobby Miller and Michael Grove.
Along with these names, and that of Blake Treinen and Tanner Scott, the Dodgers have a respectable bullpen along with Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol and Ryan Brasier, so as not to have problems in pitching, while their lineup is also complete, so they will push to retain the championship.
Tanner Scott is remembered for the four strikeouts he inflicted on Shohei Ohtani in the last Division Series with the San Diego Padres, so the Japanese will have one less rival to face.
