Deion Sanders has widespread support for becoming the Dallas Cowboys head coach. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach’s name has been linked to his former team all season, and Mike McCarthy’s departure has generated a wave of support for Coach Prime to fill the vacant position.
McCarthy left the Cowboys only on Monday after a week of speculation surrounding the reason for his departure. Media reports indicate that team owner Jerry Jones did not offer his former coach a contract extension, leaving the door open for his exit.
Less than 24 hours after McCarthy’s departure, former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant took to social media to endorse Sanders’ candidacy for the job, though Coach Prime has repeatedly said he is fully committed to the Buffs.

Bryant supports Sanders
The former wide receiver, who played eight years for Dallas between 2010 and 2017, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, “I hope Deion Sanders gets Cowboys coaching job,” clearly showing his support for the former America’s Team star.
Bryant is not the only one who supports Sanders taking the helm. A sector of the Cowboys fan base has also supported the idea, with messages like “I am so ready for PRIME to return to the Cowboys,” and “Can you imagine the show that will be put on in Dallas? Yesss!”
However, others believe that it is not yet time for the former receiver to return to the team with which he won Super Bowl XXX. “Nah… CU just needs to finalize the terms. Coach Prime has a beautiful thing in Boulder, and he’s just getting started,” explained one fan.
What other options does Dallas have?
So far, Jones has not indicated if he has a candidate to replace McCarthy. In addition to Sanders, analysts speculate that Jason Witten, Kellen Moore, and Jon Gruden are also candidates for the job, but nothing has been made official on that front.
The race for one of the most coveted but most complicated positions in the NFL is just beginning. Sanders has been at the top of analysts’ lists all season, but the final say belongs to the always-unpredictable Jerry Jones.
