The undefeated champion wants to turn the page and start thinking about his next opponent, to look for new challenges. He preferred not to talk about the cancellation of his fight with Lopez, as well as a possible rematch against Garcia.

Devin Haney no longer wants to look back, the American boxer, with an impeccable 32-0 record, confirmed that his long-awaited fight against Teofimo Lopez, which was scheduled for August 16 in Saudi Arabia, is no longer in his plans.

According to Haney, the responsibility for the fight not taking place now lies entirely on Lopez‘s side:

We gave him the opportunity to sign a contract. I signed my part, so it was up to him. He didn’t, so now we move on.

Why was the fight between Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez cancelled?

Lopez’s team alleged “personal reasons” to justify his withdrawal from the fight, but Haney was not convinced, hinting that, for him, the excuses do not have much support.

Regarding his next opponent, Haney did not want to give too much away, although he made it clear that his expectations are high: “I’m willing to fight the best in the world. I want to fight the best fighter in the world… we’ll see,” he said.

Who will Devin Haney fight?

One of the names that inevitably comes up is Ryan Garcia. A fight that would have a taste of revenge, as both starred in a fight in April 2024 that ended up being a scandal.

Garcia defeated Haney, but the fight was invalidated after it was discovered that Garcia tested positive for a banned substance before and on the day of the fight, according to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).

Since then, the careers of the two have gone in different directions. Haney came back strong and defeated Jose Carlos Ramirez by unanimous decision. Garcia, on the other hand, lost to Rolly Romero on May 2 in an event held in Times Square and is currently recovering from hand surgery that will keep him out of the ring for the rest of 2025.

Although Haney did not rule out a possible rematch with Garcia, he was not enthusiastic about it either: “We’ll see who’s next. It is what it is,” he said.

Despite this, he left the door ajar for Lopez by pointing out that “he can still have his chance”, but made it clear that he is focused on heavier opponents.

For now, Devin Haney remains steadfast in his goal: to prove that he is ready to take on the biggest names in world boxing.
