Despite the fact that his return to the UFC has been dramatically delayed, MMA star Conor McGregor looks set to get an important payday in the office at an event that would have global spotlight, although he would move from the octagon to the ring, as with the start of the year rumors have grown that the ‘Notorious One’ is close to becoming the next opponent of Logan Paul, brother of the great star of celebrity fights Jake Paul
In fact, reports indicate that even the UFC would be involved in the negotiation of what would be a stellar event of global dimensions, if it materializes, to the point that a possible total purse of $250 million is even being considered, for the Irishman to become a rival of Paul, who has experience in WWE, but both are ‘novices’ in pugilism. It is said that the fight could be held in India
According to Brendan Schaub on his Thiccc Boy podcast, McGregor confirmed that the UFC has negotiated a similar contract to the one he got when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.:“They have to be (McGregor’s representative in the negotiation). Conor McGregor’s business, wouldn’t do anything without the UFC. Great, take my money. It’s exactly the same deal, and they would never do this for anyone else. It’s exactly the same deal they did with Showtime when Conor fought Floyd”.
Schaub claims that UFC believes a matchup between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul is “good business”, as it is a win-win for the fighters and for any company that gets involved in the promotion, in this case Dana White’s own circuit
So they have this great fight on a platter, where they’re going to get paid without having to do all the heavy lifting. It’s a huge payday at the end: “We (UFC) get whatever, 20%, and then it just adds value to you. And then you still have to fight for us. Do your thing, daddy. That’s what’s going on. It’s brilliant on the part of the UFC.”
Hints for the fight between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul
Just this Sunday, ‘Notorius One’ reiterated on his X account that he will face Logan Paul in exchange for a juicy purse in his second foray into boxing, the first since 2017, when he lost in a lackluster fight against Floyd Mayweather, after a long exchange of insults.
On that occasion, the Irish fighter pocketed around $85 million (30 of which was guaranteed), according to ‘Forbes’
However, another specialist and former UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen, indicates that the fight will not be viable and that all these reports are false and that instead, they are rumors launched by McGregor himself only to stay in the conversation in the media, since for various circumstances, he has not fought since 2021.
“It’s a scam, it’s all flawed… First of all, it’s not about Saudi Arabia, it’s about India, for some Indian billionaire who wants to bring tourism to the country [when] India is the most populous country in the world, it’s like a farce,” he said on his YouTube channel.
And he added: “But let me tell you one thing a rich guy hates: if you’re a really rich guy, it actually hurts him and keeps him up at night not to have his fame; a guy that rich wants his credit for it.”
Therefore, he claims there is no way a billionaire would write a $250 million check to watch him fight, when his current market price is $8 million.
