The Denver Broncos’ owner has warned the Kansas City Chiefs to expect them to challenge for the AFC West title in the 2025/26 NFL season, as Greg Penner demands championships from his team.
The NFL Playoffs welcomed back the Broncos for the first time since 2015 as their rookie quarterback spurred the Broncos to a 10-7 record, earning a spot in the AFC Wild Card round.
However, that’s as far as they went after being soundly beaten 31-7 by Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills side, who have set up a clash with Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens with the MVP prize effectively on the line.

But Penner, who is also the CEO of the team, is not settling for this step forwards as he demands Sean Payton follow it up with an ambitious task of ending Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs dynasty.
“Our absolute goal next year is to win our division,” Penner told reporters, as per Aric DiLalla. “The results of this last Sunday were not what we were hoping for or expecting, but I think the experience that the young team got will be critical for the future.
“I will say that while we are incredibly pleased with the progress and number of accomplishments this year, we don’t at all feel like we are satisfied with where we are.
“We know that this offseason will be a critical one for us to build for the future. Our main message is we have our sights set really high.
“And we are going to be doing everything we can to continue to build a great team and compete for championships.”
Bo Nix’s impressive debut
Nix was picked 12th overall by the Broncos in the 2024 NFL Draft and immediately proved why he was a first-rounder in his debut campaign, passing for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns as Denver may have found their quarterback for the future.
Nix, who is 24 and graduated form the Oregon Ducks, threw 12 interceptions (tied 99th) and was sacked 24 times. He averaged a 66.3% completion rate from 567 passing attempts throughout the year, making 376 of them.
He will be eligible for a new contract when his rookie deal expires at the end of the 2028 NFL season. He currently makes $18.6 million, averaging at $4.65 million per year.
