The philosophy of Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders could impact his son’s football future as Shedeur Sanders sets plans in motion to figure out where he will be heading to after being picked in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The 22-year-old is expected to be the lead quarterback of his class and with a host of teams desperately desiring a new passer for their snaps, he could be a very attractive pick in Green Bay this April.

However, his father’s old mantra may warn him away from struggling teams such as the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. Coach Prime makes sure he’s tough on his kids to set them with the right mentality for professional sports, and that could be in play once again.

“If you don’t believe in yourself, how will somebody else believe in you,” Sanders likes to say, and this could mean Shedeur will try to dodge going to lowly teams to chase somewhere slightly more attractive such as the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots.

“Don’t just be good; be great. Be in control of your destiny,” is another line from the 57-year-old to his son too. Could that influence the quarterback to pick somewhere slightly flashier by reminding him he is in charge?

Will the Browns draft Sanders?

To say DeShaun Watson has bombed with the Cleveland Browns would be an understatement. The 29-year-old is on a huge deal in Ohio, worth $230m over five years, but the problem is he’s rarely available to play.

The QB is regularly injured and has barely played any games for the team, including in the 2024/25 NFL season after being ruled out for the rest of the year from Week 7 with an Achilles tendon tear.

As if that wasn’t already bad enough, he then retore his Achilles in January so now he may be sidelined for the entire season. He only had surgery in October 2024.

So the Browns need a new quarterback after none of Bailey Zappe, Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Jameis Winston particularly rose to the challenge and that’s why Sanders is a perfect option for them.

Talented, young, hungry and cheap, the 22-year-old Buffaloes star could be ripe for the team, who holds the second pick in the draft order.
