The talk surrounding Deion Sanders and the vacant Dallas Cowboys head coaching position shows no signs of slowing down, with a recent report stating Coach Prime would take it should it be offered.

The Cowboys are looking to fill the role after failing to agree on a new contract with Mike McCarthy, who left the team after five seasons at the helm.

Since then Sanders has emerged as a possible candidate to succeed him, with Ed Werder stating on Thursday that the Colorado Buffaloes boss would accept the job if offered it.

“Regarding Deion Sanders: I’m being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next #Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it and that Jones is enamored with the idea,” Werder wrote on social media.

Sanders open to joining the Cowboys?

Sanders has spoken about his love for his current role as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, though he admitted that hearing from Jones is always intriguing.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

If Sanders were to leave Colorado after two seasons, it would come at the same time his son, Shedeur, is set to be a top pick at the upcoming NFL Draft. Another star Buffaloes player, Heisman winner Travis Hunter, is also executed to be one of the first names called in the draft.

While it would be tough for Coach Prime to leave Boulder just as the Buffaloes begin to turn things around after years of struggles, has an obvious connection to Dallas having played there from 1995 to 1999.

During that time he was a Pro Bowler every year and he helped the Cowboys to victory at Super Bowl XXX in 1996 – the last time they’ve made the big game.

While there has been plenty of speculation that Deion would want to team up with Shedeur in Dallas, ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that Coach Prime “would go to Dallas and be thrilled to coach Dak Prescott” during a recent appearance on Get Up.

That isn’t all that surprising given the Cowboys went 12-5 from 2021 to 2023 when Prescott was healthy.
