Even when he’s not on the sidelines, Deion Sanders knows how to command attention.
The Colorado Buffaloes head coach may be temporarily away from Boulder while recovering from a health issue, but that hasn’t stopped him from dropping major news-and major heat. On Friday, Sanders shared a new colorway of his Nike Air DT Proto ’92 sneakers on Instagram, and the response was instant.
The new kicks, called “Braves,” are a tribute to one of the most iconic moments in Sanders’ two-sport career: October 11, 1992. That day, Prime returned kicks, caught passes for the Atlanta Falcons, then flew across the country to suit up for the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS-all in one unforgettable day.
Sanders posted the sleek red-and-black shoes with a simple caption: “I told you ‘We were coming’!”Travis Kelce couldn’t help but react. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end dropped a trail of emojis in the comments, giving the stamp of approval.
Only 1,000 Pairs-And You’ll Have to Be in Atlanta to Get Them
According to Nice Kicks, just 1,000 pairs of the “Braves” edition will release during MLB’s All-Star Weekend-exclusively in Atlanta. The limited drop makes the shoes not just a fashion statement, but a collector’s gem tied to one of the wildest feats in sports history.
For Sanders, it’s a reminder of the legacy he’s still building-even while away from the field. He’s reportedly recovering from an undisclosed health issue that led to a 14-pound weight loss. He’s currently at home in Texas and has yet to rejoin the Buffaloes ahead of their 2025 season.
Colorado is coming off a strong 9-4 run but will face a major reset. Sanders’ son and star QB Shedeur Sanders is now with the Cleveland Browns, while two-way sensation Travis Hunter was drafted by the Jaguars. A lot will look different when Colorado kicks off against Georgia Tech on August 29-but one thing hasn’t changed.
Coach Prime still knows how to make waves. Even from a distance.
