Deion Sanders‘ son, Shedeur, had a tough outing as the Cleveland Browns fell 31-3 to the Chicago Bears in Week 15. After the loss, Coach Prime shared a pointed social media message hinting at lessons learned despite the disappointing outcome.
Shedeur struggled to match his four-touchdown performance from the prior week, completing 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions in the defeat to the NFC North leaders.
The Browns‘ offense has been inconsistent all season, ranking near the bottom of the league in total yards and passing touchdowns and that was on show once again in their latest round of football.
And intriguingly, Deion appeared to target the offensive coordinator with his cryptic post, emphasizing the letters “O” and “C” in the word “Outcome”, potentially calling out Tommy Rees.
“Well it didn’t Come Out like we wanted it to,” Sanders wrote online.
“But we’re thankful that the OutCome taught us things that will ultimately bless us on our journey. #CoachPrime.”
Rees, who replaced Ken Dorsey as Cleveland’s offensive coordinator in January, has overseen a unit struggling to generate plays.
The Browns averaged just 269.8 yards per game, and Shedeur endured multiple sacks and turnovers against a Bears defense that dominated throughout.
Cleveland fell behind early as Chicago raced to a 14-0 lead. The Browns managed a single field goal in the third quarter while Myles Garrett recorded 1.5 sacks on Caleb Williams, attempting to provide any spark for a comeback effort.
Sanders opens up on Browns defeat
Statistically, the Browns‘ struggles were clear. Shedeur threw three interceptions, rushed for 24 yards, and was sacked five times for a total loss of 35 yards.
The running game offered little help, with Quinshon Judkins gaining only 21 yards on 12 carries, highlighting the offense’s difficulties.
And Shedeur addressed the media following the loss, emphasizing learning and resilience despite the tough outing as the team continues to languish at the foot of the AFC North.
“I’m the same person regardless,” Sanders said.
“I still got the same belief in myself. Like it is every week, you’ve got to get out there, learn from it, play better and that’s it.”
He also defended his wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy, after a costly turnover on a potential touchdown play with the score at 21-3, which would have given life back to the Browns had they converted a PAT to make it 21-10.
“It is what it is,” Sanders continued. “I’m not one to kick someone while they’re down. He understands it was a big play, and I’m sure he’s hard on himself. So there’s no need for me to be extra and do that.”
The Browns‘ next challenge comes against the 10-4 Buffalo Bills on Sunday at 13:00 ET/10:00 PT, broadcast on CBS. The Bills come into the game having just beaten the 11-3 New England Patriots.
Following consecutive losses, the team will need to find consistency on offense and protect Shedeur if they hope to salvage their season and end the year on a stronger note.
