Much has already been said between David Benavidez and David Morrell ahead of their fight on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where both fighters will be looking to take away their rival’s unbeaten record in a bout for the WBC interim light heavyweight championship.

Benavidez’s ‘motivation’

However, for Benavidez his 30th victory and the belt are not the only motivation and he wants to add his 25th knockout at the expense of his ‘namesake’ whom he cannot stand, and who with less experience, but with a lot of power in his fists wants to do the same to the ‘Mexican Monster’.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, the 28-year-old Mexican-born fighter said that Saturday’s fight “goes beyond just a sporting event”: “I’m very excited for this fight. It’s a fight that people have wanted for a long time. I think we’ve promoted this fight to the max (…) I’m very excited to go in and get my hands on David Morrell. He’s been talking a lot. So there’s no more talking. And I’m very excited to go in and break his face!

A great rivalry that will leave its mark

In the various promotional meetings for this fight, which will finally see the light of day on Saturday in a show from ‘Sin City’ and can be seen on Prime and ESPN, the electrifying rivalry between the two has been felt, so a no-holds-barred duel is expected that will surely see one of the two kiss the canvas, to deliver his unbeaten record into the hands of his hated rival.

For Benavidez, the hatred he feels against Morrell is self-explanatory and he made this clear to the aforementioned portal: “I’ve never been so angry against a rival as I am today against Morrell. Honestly, it’s very simple. The mere fact that he thought he could beat me made me dislike him,” he concluded.
