The Benavidez family does not let go of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, after he refused to agree to a fight withDavid Benavidez. Now his father accused him of making boxing a circus, with the two fights that Canelo has agreed for 2025, first against Cuban William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while on September 13 he will face Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.
Whether it’s David or his father Jose Benavidez Sr, they take every opportunity to launch themselves against Canelo Alvarez, and now the annoyance is focused on the fact that in their opinion, the Mexican does what he wants and the organizations should not allow him to fight with the opponents he wants
“They are making a circus here, and Canelo does what he wants. Good for him. The organizers allow it. It doesn’t matter what people say. They are going to do it anyway,” said Jose Benavidez Sr. in an interview with Fight Hub TV.
Jose Benavidez dismisses Canelo’s next opponents
David Benavidez’s father questioned the short career of Scull to headline the card in which he will face Canelo, who chose him instead of seeking to face the best boxers in his division.
“Scull, what the hell has he accomplished? Who is Scull? I didn’t even know who Scull was,” Jose Benavidez Sr. continued in the chat with Fight Hub TV.
As for Crawford, Benavidez criticized that he looked bad in his recent fight against Israil Madrimov and if he now intends to move up two divisions to face Canelo, he does not see him ready to move up from 154 to 168 pounds, which makes it a tilted clash for the Mexican, who will have two easy fights in 2025.
“So I see two easy fights for him [Canelo], and that’s what they want. People allow it, and organizations allow it. So he’s going to keep doing it. Why not? As he says, he can do whatever he wants, and he’s doing what he wants,” said Benavidez Sr.
