Minnesota United beat Inter Miami 4-1 in an MLS match.
The Minneapolis team’s celebration on social media after beating the Californians has stung in Los Angeles.
After their victory at home, Minnesota United posted a photo of the match on Instagram with the caption “Pink Phony Club”, in reference to the color of Inter Miami’s kit and Chappell Roan’s song “Pink Pony Club”.
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham criticised Minnesota United’s post.
“Show a bit of respect. Be classy in victory,” replied the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player.
Minnesota United responded to David Beckham with a photo of a banner with the message “history over publicity, culture over money,” with the words “publicity and money” highlighted in pink.
“Respect above all else,” Beckham insisted in the face of this new attack from Minneapolis.
