Davante Adams is going back to the Green Bay Packers! At least that’s what fans and media exclaimed when they saw the receiver’s most recent post on his social media. However, Adams’ future is far from settled, and much will depend on what happens between Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.
Adams spent his first eight years in the NFL with the Packers, where he was a key piece in leading the team to the playoffs six times. After a contractual disagreement, the team decided to trade Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he played for the next two seasons, and then joined the Jets in a move that took everyone by surprise.
The receiver signed a five-year, $140 million contract with the Raiders, which the Jets took over after trading for him at the start of the 2024 season. However, the deal takes up significant cap space for the Jets, which could mark his departure from the team, perhaps back to the Packers.

Adams’ signs
Adams sparked a frenzy on Friday when he posted a photo of green and yellow sneakers to his Instagram Stories. Needless to say, those are the Packers’ colors, and fans took it as a sign that the star receiver is about to return to his former team.
There has been no formal announcement from either side, but some analysts believe Adams would be the solution to Green Bay’s receiver room issues.
After a stellar playoff run in 2023, the team fizzled out a bit in 2024, barely snagging a wild-card berth in the postseason. Receivers Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed were inconsistent in their performances, highlighting the need for a revamp.
With free agency just around the corner, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur will have to weigh whether to hire a veteran to mentor the team’s young talent or wait until the 2025 Draft to bring in some new blood.
Fan reaction
Fans had mixed reactions to Adams’ photo, from those who exclaimed “PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,” begging for the receiver’s return, to those who said “The man is washed, it’s over,” or those who recalled “Didn’t bro beg to leave, lmao.”
There are many issues to be resolved before Adams returns to Green Bay. One of them is the future of Aaron Rodgers. A-Rod was the main reason Adams came to the Jets; however, the veteran quarterback could hang up his cleats this season, leaving his old friend’s future up in the air.
