The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly making a serious push to land former triple crown-winning receiver Cooper Kupp, signaling a potential power shift in the NFC East. This move comes hot on the heels of their division rival Washington Commanders securing Deebo Samuel in a trade that left Cowboys fans reeling.

Insider Dan Graziano has revealed that Dallas is a team to watch in the the Los Angeles Rams star receiver sweepstakes, as they seek a reliable No. 2 receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb. The Rams recently announced that they are willing to listen to offers for Kupp.

The Cowboys’ interest in Kupp stems from their desire to bolster their receiving corps after a perceived misstep with the acquisition of Jonathan Mingo, who failed to make a significant impact last season.

The sting of Washington’s seemingly low-cost acquisition of Samuel, a mere 5th-round pick, has amplified the pressure on the Cowboys front office. Fans were quick to criticize Dallas for surrendering a 4th-round pick for Mingo.

Do the Cowboys have enough cash to acquire Kupp?

Graziano suggests that if Kupp’s price tag drops sufficiently, the Cowboys could become serious contenders for his services. However, financial flexibility is a key factor. The Cowboys’ ability to pursue Kupp hinges on their handling of defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa.

The Cowboys are reportedly “very close” to a deal with Odighizuwa. However, if an agreement isn’t reached by Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CT franchise tag deadline, they may be forced to utilize the tag, locking him down and potentially impacting their resources for a Kupp trade.

Securing Odighizuwa’s future is seen as a crucial first step for the Cowboys in their pursuit of Kupp. The addition of a veteran presence like Kupp would provide much-needed stability and leadership to a receiver room in need of a boost.

Kupp remains one of the best WRs in the NFL

Despite recent injury struggles, Kupp, who will be 32 in June, demonstrated his continued value in 2024, recording 67 receptions, 710 yards, and 6 touchdowns in 12 games.

The Cowboys are betting that Kupp can recapture his former glory and play a pivotal role in their offensive strategy. The sense of urgency emanating from Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office suggests they are determined to make a significant move, and Kupp could be the key to their success.
