There are many things that won’t change for the Dallas Cowboys, and one of them, to the “misfortune” of many, is their quarterback, Dak Prescott, at least not anytime soon. However, this Wednesday, a rumor surfaced about a potential trade with the Cleveland Browns that put everyone on alert.
A Dak Prescott trade is impossible
We have to start by talking about the Dallas Cowboys QB’s contract, which includes a four-year, $240 million extension that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
According to Jane Slater of Yahoo Sports, the new head coach of Dallas, Brian Schottenheimer, has a good relationship with Prescott, and trading him would make no sense. However, as we’ve seen in other sports, anything is possible…
But the most important factor in this situation, according to Slater, is that Prescott has a “no-trade clause,” meaning it’s highly unlikely this would happen. Additionally, it could be considered “absurd” given that Cleveland has paid a lot for quarterbacks in recent years.
Prescott’s salary cap hit for the 2025 season will be $52.9 million, according to Sportrac. In 2026, it will rise to $76.5 million, and in 2027, it will be around $70 million. Meanwhile, the Browns have just over $18 million in cap space for 2025, according to Over the Cap. The numbers simply don’t add up.
So, the Dallas Cowboys can’t part ways with Prescott through this route, and it seems the Browns will stick with Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback for the 2025 season.
The Dak Prescott to Cleveland Browns rumor
A Cleveland commentator named Bruce Drennan stated that the Cleveland Browns were willing to negotiate for the Cowboys’ quarterback, claiming that “a very reliable source within the Browns organization” shared this information with him.
Fans are starting to wonder: Is there any way back for Trey Lance in the NFL?
“Since our last show, I’ve heard that part of the reason Myles Garrett was so willing to sign this extension – yes, money, money, money – is that the Browns are currently negotiating with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade involving Dak Prescott,” Drennan said.
Drennan also mentioned that the team’s cornerback, Greg Newsome II, along with some draft picks, would be part of the deal.
