Nostalgia often brings a wave of goosebumps, and for Dak Prescott, it might serve as a reminder of his stellar rookie season in 2016. Back then, the Cowboys’ quarterback dazzled with a 13-3 record and an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title. Caleb Williams, on the other hand, had a more turbulent start with the Chicago Bears in 2024, leading the team to a disappointing 5-12 finish. While Caleb set some franchise records, his debut lacked the electrifying impact Dak brought to the league.

Caleb entered the NFL with immense hype and bold ambitions, famously declaring his goal of winning “eight Super Bowls.” Even Tom Brady weighed in, saying, “You have to set your goals high… but a lot goes into winning one Super Bowl.” Unfortunately, Caleb’s first season didn’t come close to matching that talk. His individual stats were respectable-3,541 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and a 62.5% completion rate-but football is a team sport, and the Bears struggled with cohesion even before the season began.

Attitude has been a recurring critique for Caleb. On his first field day with the Bears, a viral video showed him seemingly ignoring wide receiver Keenan Allen, who was supposed to be his key offensive weapon. Former Titan Taylor Lewan also called him out for “bad vibes” at the NFL Combine, where Caleb skipped throws and medical evaluations.

As Lewan put it, “He essentially came to the combine for free gear.” Critics like Tad Prescott, Dak’s brother, have pointed out Caleb’s demeanor as a potential issue. “There’s a line between confidence and cockiness,” Tad said on the Unwanted Opinion podcast. “They don’t care what you’ve done in college… You’ve done nothing for us.”

Did they choose the wrong quarterback?

The Bears’ organizational instability didn’t help either. A revolving door at offensive coordinator and the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus added to the chaos. Still, Caleb’s tendency to talk big without delivering on the field drew scrutiny. His statement-“I’ve played around 30 some games… go ahead and watch a live game of me and see how I am as a competitor“-came across as overly self-assured.

Adding to the intrigue is the lingering “what if” question: should the Bears have drafted Jayden Daniels instead? Tad Prescott didn’t mince words on this topic, saying, “Yeah, I think you keep him, draft whichever one of them that GM felt more comfortable with, which to me would have been Jayden Daniels, the Heisman Trophy winner. A guy that went into LSU and produced in the SEC. That’s another thing for me; I think DBs and SECs are faster.”
