Michael Kay, New York Yankees radio commentator, criticized Juan Soto for his comments, which he called ‘disconnected’, and believes the outfielder should have handled the MLB All-Star Game 2025 issue differently.
“Let’s talk about being tone deaf. Come on, Juan. The last time I looked, you’re making just under $47 million this season. And you’re upset because you’re not going to make the All-Star Game because of an All-Star bonus you have in your contract? Do you know how bad it looks that you said that? Even if you thought it, fine. What kind of expenses do you have? I don’t even know what the bonus is.”
“I thought it was AI. I said, ‘There’s no way he said that. There’s no way someone I know, who’s a smart guy and is represented by one of the smartest people I’ve ever met in the business, (agent) Scott Boras, would say something like that.”

According to Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News, Juan Soto would have earned a $100,000 bonus if he had been included on the MLB 2025 All-Star Game roster. Soto signed a 15-year, $765 million contract that could exceed $800 million in total to join the New York Mets in the last MLB offseason.
