Cristiano Ronaldo breaks his word and lashes out: He elbows a rival and gets sent off like a “bad boy”

Cristiano Ronaldo is not welcome in every place he visits, and Ireland is a clear example of that. The Portuguese footballer was the protagonist, though not exactly for scoring goals, in this match where they lost 2-0 and failed to secure their pass to the next World Cup. In fact, CR7 had a really tough time.

CR7 did not keep his word

Prior to this encounter where he was sent off, Cristiano had commented that he was used to boos and that it was to be expected they would appear, but in his pre-match statements at the press conference, he promised he would be a “good boy.”

“I repeat, I hope there are no boos against me tomorrow. For me, it’s a pleasure to come and play here again. I swear I’ll try to be a good boy,” he said.

And well, the boos did appear, but also an action where he threw an elbow left him in a bad spot, he saw the red card, and it led him to break his promise, leaving the pitch as a true “bad boy Cristiano Ronaldo”.

The player got into it with the stands, and his team was left on the brink of qualification-a bad news for football fans because now the Portugal National Team will have to postpone their qualification.

With this defeat, Roberto Martínez‘s side remain leaders with 10 points and will play for qualification in the last matchday against Armenia. In the other match, Hungary (8 points) and Ireland (7) are hot on their heels with the hope of stealing the ticket to FIFA World Cup from the Lusitanians.
