The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to quarterback rumors, but a recent trade proposal involving rookie QB Joe Milton and Cleveland Browns first-rounder Shedeur Sanders has drawn ridicule and disbelief from fans.
The hypothetical scenario, which suggested the Cowboys could trade Milton in exchange for Sanders, has sparked a wave of online mockery – with many calling it illogical and “football nonsense.”
Joe Milton, known for his rocket arm and physical tools, joined the Cowboys in April 2025 via a trade with the New England Patriots. Though still a raw prospect, Dallas sees potential in the former Tennessee quarterback as a developmental option behind Dak Prescott and Trey Lance. However, Milton remains unproven at the NFL level.
On the other side of the speculation is Shedeur Sanders, who was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders arrived with high expectations following a standout college career under his father, Deion Sanders, at Colorado. The Browns view him as a future franchise cornerstone – a major investment not likely to be flipped before he plays a single down.
Fans question the logic behind the proposal
Cowboys fans were quick to voice their skepticism. “Why would the Browns give up Shedeur for a backup?” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). Others called the idea “delusional,” pointing out the clear difference in draft capital and perceived upside between the two young quarterbacks.
With Prescott in a contract year and uncertainty brewing about his long-term future in Dallas, the Cowboys’ quarterback room is already under scrutiny. Still, the idea of swapping Milton for Sanders – a player many believe could be a franchise-changing talent – seems far-fetched.
For now, both quarterbacks are staying put, and the fan base appears united in its rejection of one of the offseason’s strangest trade ideas.
