As the New York Giants prepare to make a franchise-altering decision with their No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, a surprising theory has emerged: If the Giants select Shedeur Sanders, could Deion Sanders soon follow as head coach?

This possibility was floated by NFL analyst Danny Parkins during a recent appearance on The Colin Cowherd Podcast. Parkins suggested that drafting Shedeur could open the door for a bold coaching change.

“Does he go to the Giants? And it feels like a mortal lock that Brian Daboll gets fired and they hire Deion Sanders. Pretty damn interesting either way,” Parkins speculated.

Deion and Shedeur Sanders: A Package Deal?

Though this theory may seem far-fetched, it’s rooted in Deion Sanders’ own public comments. Back in January, Deion Sanders appeared on Good Morning America, stating, “The only way I would consider [coaching in the NFL] is to coach my sons.”

Given this, the idea of Deion stepping into an NFL coaching role to continue working with his son Shedeur isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

Adding fuel to the fire, earlier this year Deion was reportedly in talks with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders about potential coaching vacancies. Though nothing materialized, it demonstrated that NFL teams are taking him seriously as a coaching candidate.

Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders seems ready to chart his own path in the league, even without his father’s direct guidance. Speaking candidly on his 2Legendary podcast, Shedeur said, “Me and pops had a good run, but all good things must come to an end… you were always ready mentally for that day.”

Still, Shedeur remains unfazed by the intense scrutiny that comes with his last name. At the NFL Combine, he told reporters, “You think I’m worried about what critics say or what people got to say? You know who my dad is? They hated on him too. So, without people hating, it’s not normal for us.”

Giants’ GM Praises Shedeur as Draft Day Looms

Within the Giants organization, interest in Shedeur Sanders is very real. General Manager Joe Schoen, speaking at the Senior Bowl, offered high praise for the Colorado QB.

“He’s a great kid. Really good personality. Football smart. Dad’s a football coach,” Schoen remarked. “He’s had a really good career in Colorado, and obviously [we] look forward to getting to know all those guys the rest of the process.”

Meanwhile, Brian Daboll’s status as head coach remains shaky after a dismal 3-14 season in 2024, with owner John Mara already scaling back Daboll’s responsibilities, including taking away his play-calling duties. If Daboll stumbles out of the gate again in 2025, calls for a change will undoubtedly grow louder.

Interestingly, reports from New York Daily News earlier this year also suggested that selecting Shedeur Sanders would naturally open a path for Deion to enter the Giants’ coaching discussion.

Whether this scenario plays out remains to be seen, but as the NFL Draft approaches (April 24-26 at Lambeau Field), both Sanders family dynamics and Giants leadership decisions are becoming increasingly intertwined.
