Coco Gauff achieved a comfortable victory over Canadian Leylah Fernandez, whom she defeated in two sets (6-4, 6-2) to reach the round of 16, where she will face Swiss Belinda Bencic, who reached this stage after Naomi Osaka‘s injury in the first point of their match.

With this victory, the American tennis player has the quarter-finals in her hands and already has in mind that after that she could face Spain’s Paula Badosa in the quarter-finals and, if she passes, she would meet the WTA number one, Russia’s Aryna Sabalenka, in the semi-finals.

The first set began with parity that both players held with their powerful serves, something that lasted until the third game, in which Coco Gauff. In the third game, Gauff was about to achieve her first break, but Leylah Fernandez held on and it was not until the seventh game that the American managed to break her opponent’s serve to make the difference that led her to win the first set 6-4.

The continuity of the match was not modified at all and Coco Gauff continued with her overwhelming game and the Canadian tennis player could do nothing against the tennis onslaught of her rival. The Canadian, ranked 30th for this first Grand Slam, tried to fight back, but Gauff was much better in this second set, which she ended up winning 6-2.
