The war continues between the American boxer Claressa Shields, a two-time Olympic champion (London 2012 and Rio 2016) and holder of the four main world boxing titles (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) simultaneously in two weight categories, and the youtuber, actor and also boxer Jake Paul. “I don’t know if it’s something that can happen (the fight), but I know I can beat Jake Paul and the people who are against that are just sexist and don’t know boxing,” the most decorated boxer in history told USA TODAY Sports.

“It’s very strange to me that they think a YouTuber can beat a boxer who has two Olympic gold medals, (multiple) world titles and who fought as a heavyweight,” insists Shields. “He has no experience. They talk about power, but you have to have the skill to land a punch,” adds Shields, 29, who is 15-0 as a professional with three knockouts

The reason for their enmity

The feud between them began when Jake Paul called Shields a “loser” after her split decision loss in her MMA debut. “You can’t call me a loser because you don’t box better than me,” Shields said at the time. “And you sure don’t do MMA better than me. You don’t do anything better than me,” he replied. They have since had several run-ins.

The offer is always there if Jake Paul wants to fight me. I don’t think he’s that good a boxer. I’m never ever going to say or even feel like Jake Paul can beat me in a boxing match because he can’t,” he said months before Paul beat Mike Tyson in a fight that was sanctioned as a professional but left much to be desired for the boxing spectator.

An inspiring woman

A few days ago, the film The Fire Inside was released, which tells the story of Claressa Shields, born in Flint, Michigan, who became a sporting icon in the United States. She decided to take up boxing after hearing about Laila Ali from her father Clarence Shields at the age of 11.

Claressa is already part of history as the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing and the first American boxer (male or female) to win two consecutive gold medals.
