The Kansas City Chiefs are still reeling from their loss in Super Bowl LIX. The Philadelphia Eagles exposed the Chiefs’ major flaws and dominated them from beginning to end. Although the Chiefs have won plenty in recent years, this loss appears to sting as sweet as the wins felt.

Travis Kelce appeared on his “New Heights” podcast just a fews days after the loss, and was visibly distraught while trying to power through the show. Amplifying the pain has been Kelce needing to make a decision about his NFL future at some point this offseason. While Kelce weighs his options, Kansas City’s front office needs to start plugging holes on the roster. With the 2025 NFL Draft coming up, odds are on the Chiefs attacking the offensive line first and foremost.

Will Chiefs draft offensive lineman or tight end in Round 1 of 2025 NFL Draft?

Jordan Plocher of PFF has strayed a bit from the general consensus, though. Instead of the Chiefs taking an offensive lineman with pick No. 31, he has them drafting tight end Colston Loveland from Michigan. His reasoning is hard to argue with.

After watching the Chiefs’ offense in the Super Bowl, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the team used this pick on an offensive lineman. However, Travis Kelce is going into his 13th season, and drafting his replacement before he leaves would do wonders for maintaining Kansas City’s offensive success in the coming years. Loveland averaged a very impressive 2.67 yards per route run in 2024 to go along with his 90.6 PFF receiving grade.

There has been talk of the Chiefs drafting a potential replacement for Kelce for quite a while. It never really materialized, as they’ve only drafted two tight ends in the last nine drafts: Noah Gray in 2021 and Jared Wiley in 2024. Those two were fifth and fourth round picks, respectively.

Gray is a solid pass-catcher, but he isn’t a complete tight end. Wiley has talent but is quite raw and doesn’t have much experience yet. A player like Loveland could change the way the Chiefs offense operates if Kelce is still around, and he would make a great replacement due to his impressive pass-catching ability and size-speed combo.
