Marsh brings championship pedigree and a wealth of experience from both the NBA and WNBA, including rings with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and the Las Vegas Aces in 2022 and 2023.
After finishing last season with a disappointing 13-27 record, the Sky are clearly focused on building a structure that supports the growth of their rising stars, including Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and incoming rookie Hailey Van Lith. Marsh’s hiring signals a commitment to player development and team cohesion.
WNBA veterans and international voices join the bench
Supporting Marsh on the bench are a trio of assistant coaches with impressive résumés of their own. Courtney Paris and Tanisha Wright, both former WNBA players, bring on-court expertise and leadership. Paris was a dominant post presence in her playing days, while Wright is known for her sharp basketball IQ and defensive instincts.
The staff also includes Rene Wakama, head coach of the Nigerian women’s national team. Appointed on March 24, 2025, Wakama adds a global perspective and a growing reputation for maximizing talent. Aaron Johnson, a former teammate of Marsh’s at UAB, has been named player development coach, reinforcing the franchise’s focus on nurturing young talent.
Backroom moves round out the rebuild
Changes weren’t limited to the sideline. In the front office, Donnie Marsh-Tyler’s father and a seasoned basketball mind, has taken on the role of basketball operations specialist. David Simon has been promoted to director of player development, and Can Ozbalkan will continue serving as video coordinator.
Together, the new structure reflects a unified vision: pairing young star power with experienced leadership to fuel a turnaround season. With Reese ready to step into a larger role and a seasoned support system in place, expectations are rising in Chicago.
