Twenty-three seasons full of success have come and gone, year after year, for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. For some, this will be the final season of his career, while others believe there will be room for one more, although it might come away from the Lakers.
With that in mind, the door could open for James to take one final turn, this time with his hometown team, the franchise that selected him to enter the NBA. If that were to happen, it would give the people he grew up with the chance to see him play regularly and, this time, say goodbye to the professional hardwood.
On this matter, Chad ‘Ochocinco’ may have something to say, as he believes a return to Cleveland could definitely be among James’ top possibilities.
Third time could be the charm for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers
LeBron has spent two separate stints with the Cavs and could well return for a third, one that would be even more special because it would mark the end of his career. However, he would face the reality that he could only earn the veteran minimum salary.
Yet, under this financial scenario, there could be an option to broadcast his farewell tour, which could generate millions in revenue. James could receive a share of those profits, offsetting the salary difference.
On his podcast, Shannon Sharpe said that James could earn between $45 million and $70 million during this farewell tour. In addition, he would receive approximately $3.6 million as a veteran with more than 10 years in the league, along with marketing royalties tied to his final NBA season.
If such a plan were to materialize, it could make him the highest-paid athlete in the world. On that note, ‘Ochocinco’ shared his thoughts.
I like that.”… “Not only would he get a farewell, you get a vet minimum but you have so much going on off the court.
I can make the decision for LeBron.”… “This could be the decision 2.0. I can tell you LeBron is going to Cleveland, and it’s gonna happen. I like it, it makes sense to me… Back home to where it all started.
So far, LeBron James has not been clear about what his future will look like. While many believe this season will be his last, others insist there is still another year to come, possibly with Cleveland, as they chase a title to bring the fairy tale to a fitting close.
