Since the national college football championship game has been played, the NCAA has decided to award the MVP.

The CFP was first played in 2015, and before that the MVP was awarded in the old format that was called the BCS National Championship.

The award is announced at the end of the game that determines the new national college football champion, and from the first time the award was presented, quarterbacks are the most awarded position, something similar to what also happens with the MVP of the Super Bowls.

How many winners are chosen?

Unlike the NFL, in the NCAAF there are two MVP awards, one for the best offensive player and one for the best defensive player of the game, and so far only one player has won it in two consecutive years: University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett in 2022 and 2023, currently a backup passer with the Los Angeles Rams.

The current Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was the first offensive winner of the MVP, when in 2015 with the Ohio State Buckeyes, while the defensive winner of the award was safety Tyvis Powell.

It is worth mentioning that the last players to win the MVP under the BCS format were quarterback Jameis Winston and safety P.J. Williams.
