The ‘Canelo Team‘ is once again in the eye of the storm, this time for the doping of another of its fighters, in this case the Mexican fighter ‘Chihuas‘ Rodriguez, who tested positive.
Rodriguez defeated Galal Yafai 20 days ago to become the interim WBC flyweight champion, and has now tested positive in a doping test.
‘Chihuas’ positive joins other ‘Canelo Team’ positives
After the surprise victory of ChihuasRodriguez at the bp Pulse LIVE Arena in Birmingham by taking away the undefeated record of his opponent, Olympic champion Galal Yafai, who had a record of 9-0, the positive test of ChihuasRodriguez joins other positive tests of boxers linked to Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez and his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, known as the ‘Canelo Team‘.
Which ‘Canelo Team’ boxers have tested positive?
With Rodriguez’s positive test, there are now six boxers from the team led by trainer Eddy Reynoso, in the ‘Canelo Team‘, who have been linked to the use of banned substances:
- Francisco ‘Chihuas‘ Rodriguez
- Julio Cesar ‘Rey’ Martinez
- Ryan Garcia
- Jaime Munguia

- Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez
The World Boxing Council is investigating ‘Chihuas’ Rodriguez’s positive test
The issue of Rodriguez’s positive test will now be conducted by the World Boxing Council and the British Boxing Board of Control, Eddie Hearn’s promotional company said in a statement. Now, the boxer who is managed by Eddy Reynoso will have to follow the relevant investigations to try to prove his innocence.
‘Chihuas‘ Rodriguez will be called to a hearing soon to clarify this incident. He could also request that the B sample be opened for further analysis. If the case is confirmed, then ‘Chihuas‘ Rodriguez could face a suspension and the result of the fight could be declared “No Contest” and he would lose the WBC title.
‘Chihuas’ Rodriguez’s reaction to his positive
After the announcement of the positive result, ChihuasRodriguez posted a story on his social networks, specifically on his official Instagram account:
