The latest exhibition by Canelo Alvarez seems to show that his skills are already on the decline due to the logic of the passage of time at 34 years of age.
Against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia, 2024 rivals, he showed his dominance against opponents who confronted him and sent them to the canvas, although he did not knock them out, but against William Scull in Saudi Arabia, who dedicated himself to running, he was unable to cut him off to promote the exchange of blows.
Bob Arum criticizes Saul Alvarez for only looking for money
That presentation in the first fight with the contract with Turki Alalshikh has generated more criticism for Saul Alvarez (63-2-2), who is accused of just collecting money and not fighting, and in that line goes his next opponent Terence Crawford (41-0), who comes from two divisions below, as Bob Arum, promoter with Top Rank, makes clear.
“If both are going to fight (Canelo and Crawford), to really fight, I think it would be fantastic, it’s very interesting. But again, if I had to pay money to see that fight I wouldn’t because Canelo has shown in his last fights that he is just a businessman, he is not there to entertain the public.
The Canelo we’ve seen the last two years… Not only is he boring, but he really has no incentive to get in there and give people a good fight.
“Just take the big cheque, but if Canelo really fights, because I think it’s safe to say that Terence always fights, he knows no other thing, then it could be a very good and interesting fight,” he told FightHub TV
Canelo Alvarez has two more fights planned with Turki Al-Sheikh
The agreement that Saul Alvarez has with Sheikh Turki Al-Sheikh includes two fights in 2026 and it is speculated that the value of the contract would be around $100 million per fight.
While the Mexican is expected to beat Crawford in September, if he does not show a better version or if he loses, his future in the ring could be questioned, as he will turn 35 in a couple of months.
