The Face of Boxing will soon be back in the ring. Despite rumors of a fight with Terence Crawford being his next endeavor (or even Jake Paul), Canelo Alvarez signed a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh that will start with a bout against William Scull in May; of course, on Cinco de Mayo weekend, as has become tradition for Alvarez.

Scull is a name that has popped up as a potential opponent for Alvarez for quite a while. He became the mandatory challenger to Canelo’s IBF title early in 2024, but Alvarez never gave him the light of day. Alvarez decided to fight Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga instead. But with a four-fight road map in place, Alvarez likely sees the Scull fight as a way to stay in form and pick up another win.

But Canelo isn’t showing any bravado. In fact, he recently posted a photo on Instagram and captioned it: “Locked and ready“.

Canelo Alvarez is expected to handily beat William Scull, but anything is possible

Alvarez is a true professional and doesn’t take any fight lightly, but Scull’s resume isn’t exactly scary. But anything is possible in boxing and Scull has paid his dues by dispatching every opponent he has faced.

While many expect Alvarez to beat Scull, likely by knockout, Canelo hasn’t been able to score a KO since 2021. All six of his fights since then ended in a unanimous decision, with five of them being Alvarez victories.

To be fair, Scull hasn’t knocked out anyone since 2021 either. His last five wins all came by unanimous decision. It appears Alvarez is taking Scull seriously and is focused on the task at hand.
