Now 34 years old, Canelo Alvarez is on the back nine of his career. Despite his advancing age, Canelo remains the “face of boxing” and a true needle-mover in the sport. Fans anxiously wait to see what his next move will be. At the moment, that move appears to be fighting Terence Crawford in a true mega-fight, although that will likely be in September.

Before then, Alvarez will likely fight once in a tune-up. Odds are he will fight in May, as that has been a tradition of sorts for Alvarez: fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend. Doing so has allowed Alvarez to stay in touch with his Mexican roots, despite most of those fights coming in Las Vegas. But it’s clear that Alvarez hasn’t forgotten his native country.

Alvarez recently did an interview with Architectural Digest Mexico, in which he spoke about many things. He was asked more so about his connection with his hometown of Guadalajara, more than his boxing career.

Canelo Alvarez explains his love for golf and tacos

Within the interview, Alvarez shed light on two things that he seemingly can’t live without: golf and tacos.

“Although I don’t have rituals, when I’m out I look forward to golfing with my friends… I love golf, I would go to any course, but my favorites are Atlas and Santa Anita.”

Alvarez was then asked which dish from Guadalajara he misses the most when he’s away, as well as what object from the city he would bring with him. He simply loves tacos.

“Tacos al pastor… The tacos, I even brought them!”

Alvarez’s love of golf has been well-documented, as has his love for the country of Mexico and his home city. Bringing tacos with him abroad might seem crazy to some, but Alvarez will never lose sight of his roots.
