UFC President Dana White, along with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Head of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, enthusiastically announced the creation of an innovative boxing competition, a bold initiative that promises to redefine the future of boxing worldwide. They did not go it alone, as TKO is at the forefront of the project.

The company, which owns the UFC and WWE, has promised to transform boxing in true record-breaking style by copying the essence of MMA, including a rating system and a divisional championship, with promising fights between the best of the best.

Speculation is rife that the brand new boxing league could kick off with a highly anticipated fight between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Terence “Bud” Crawford, tentatively scheduled for September 2025 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This duel would be backed by Alalshikh, a key figure in the management of the event.

Canelo willing to be part of the project

In an interview with CBS Sports, the Mexican boxer left the door open and said he would be interested in joining the league.

“I think TKO is going to be the best thing for boxers, I’m pretty sure. I’m glad someone is looking out for the boxers because there are a lot of promoters who don’t take them seriously. I think this is good for boxing and for the boxers,” said the Guadalajara native.

Álvarez, who has a $400 million contract, is looking for new challenges and plans to work with the likes of Dana White and Nick Khan in a unique experience, and he has made this very clear in various media outlets.

In another interview with The Ring, he stated that it will be very interesting to work with Dana White.

“I have a deal with Turki Alalshikh. We are going to work with them. I am excited. I like Dana White. I like Nick Khan and I like TKO. It’s something new for me. I am very excited. I don’t know how White can make boxing better. He is very focused on working and being very good at what he does in the UFC. I think we will have a good time with him,” said Alvarez.

Before that, the Mexican has to prepare for his middleweight unification fight against William Scull. With everything on the line, his fight against Terence Crawford will take place, which could pave the way for a TKO in boxing.
