We’re less than three months away from what its promoters are calling the “fight of the century“. While that moniker may seem hyperbolic, it’s not every day that boxing fans get to see two of the best fighters in history go head-to-head. That’s what they’ll get when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford face each other in Las Vegas on September 13, and it’s sure to be a spectacle.

That latter point has many fans leaning towards Crawford, but Alvarez has come out to put some doubt into that sentiment.

Canelo Alvarez: “I have more than just power”

Alvarez and Crawford held a press conference on Friday, with both boxers getting their chances to get things off their chest. Canelo was extremely confident, as has become his trademark, but also cleared up something about his fighting style: he’s more than just a strong puncher.

And I think this fight is going to be one of my best fights in my history, in my record, and I’m very excited… He’s not going to beat me, don’t worry about it.

Alvarez certainly has plenty of power, which makes his opponents scared to trade blows. That has led to some mundane fights in recent years, including his bouts against William Scull and Jermell Charlo.

Crawford has constantly said he’s willing to go toe to toe with Alvarez, unafraid of trading blows. That seems to be the case with many of Canelo’s opponents, though, and their tune changes once they step into the ring with him. “Bud” is adamant he’s different.
