Jake Paul could be looking to bite off more than he can chew. After his controversial victory over Mike Tyson, the YouTuber-turned-boxer is seeking more dangerous opponents, even though experts like Mams Taylor are calling him delusional for wanting to face the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

After months of anticipation, the fight between Paul and Tyson finally took place this past November 15th. The event was a huge success for Netflix, which reported 108 million viewers at the peak of the broadcast, even causing problems with the streaming signal.

The result was a points victory for “The Problem Child” over “Iron Mike.”The victory boosted Paul’s ego, leading him to redouble his efforts to secure a fight with Canelo, the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Meanwhile, Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s partner at Most Valuable Promotions, has also said that the influencer could remain at heavyweight to face rivals such as Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois. In this regard, Taylor warned that if he insists on pursuing rivals of this level, Paul could be seriously hurt.

Will Paul risk everything for money?

After Paul’s repeated statements trying to provoke Canelo, Mams Taylor, manager of the influencer-boxer KSI, warned that a fight of that caliber could end very badly for the former YouTuber.

“If Nakisa puts Jake in that position where he fights Anthony Joshua or Canelo or Dubois, he could seriously get his client hurt,” Taylor warned in statements to DAZN PPV prior to the Misfits Qatar card.

The founding promoter of Misfits Boxing felt that it all comes down to the boxer’s ambition, saying, “So either he’s really delusional or he only gives a sh*t about the money. But once Jake has that fight, maybe he’ll come back down to earth and have a real talk [about] whoever it’s with on that level.”

The scale is the first hurdle

Paul is a natural cruiserweight, but for the fight with Mike Tyson, he had to gain around 25lb to reach the 200lb needed to fight at heavyweight. This would allow him to fight Joshua or Dubois almost immediately.

To face Canelo, Paul would have to lose at least 32lb from his current weight to reach the maximum of 168lb at super middleweight, unless Alvarez agreed to go up 8lb to reach the minimum of 175lb at cruiserweight. The latter seems very unlikely, especially while the Mexican champion is still active and defending his belts.
