After Cam Ward had the long-awaited first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, another pick got all the looks, albeit long overdue.
Expectations were high for Colorado Buffaloes pick Shedeur Sandrers, but his selection at No. 144 in the fifth round of the 2025 Draft by the Cleveland Browns left everyone surprised.
Of course, this quickly got fans talking, as – given his promising performance – he was not previously selected. Amidst the comments, a longtime friend and competitor of Shedeur’s came to his defense.
The two shared a lot of time training together before the Draft and forged a great bond, so he didn’t hesitate to defend him from the criticism. Yes, we’re talking about Draft No. 1, Cam Ward.
In dialogue with “Bussin’ With the Boys,” he was asked: “Who’s the best quarterback in this draft besides you?” And without missing a beat, Cam answered:
Shedeur Sanders.
Cam Ward becomes the best emotional support for Shedeur
This isn’t the first time Cam has come to Sanders’ defense. After being selected by the Tennessee Titans, during his presentation, he spoke to the media and assured that he was surprised by his late selection:
“He’s a good quarterback. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Especially for the plays he made in Colorado; a lot of quarterbacks in the country don’t make them. When he gets his chance – I’m pretty sure it’s coming soon today – he’ll make sure he makes plays on the field when he gets the opportunity”.
A $30 million team remains interested in Sanders
Following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Toronto Argonauts quickly added Shedeur to their negotiating list.
This move gives the Canadiens priority to add the quarterback if he decides to play in the CFL. That’s according to TSN’s Dave Naylor, who broke the news after the former Colorado Buffaloes’ surprise fifth-round selection.
If he decides to wear the Cleveland Browns colors, he will have to compete hard to be the starting QB. This fight will not be easy, as he has competition: Dillon Gabriel -another rookie selected in the third round-, Kenny Pickett -a reigning Super Bowl champion with the Eagles- the injured Deshaun Watson or Joe Flacco, 40 years old.
