Without a doubt, the biggest and most anticipated news of the 2025 NFL Draft was the first pick, which went to Cam Ward as he was selected by the Tennessee Titans. However, another pick stole the show.
Expectations were high for Colorado Buffaloes pick Shedeur Sandrers, as he was expected to be one of the first 10 selections. Contrary to popular belief, Cleveland Browns selected him No. 144 in the fifth round of the 2025 Draft.
This quickly became the talk of the town, as – given his promising performance – he was not previously selected. This, of course, also came as a blow to Shedeur.
In the midst of the storm, Cam Ward came to his defense. The two shared a lot of time training together before the Draft and forged a great bond, so he didn’t hesitate to defend him from the criticism. “I’ve forged a special relationship with him, especially when I first met him about five years ago when I started working with him at UIW,” Ward said.
But I was surprised, because he’s a good quarterback. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Especially for the plays he made at Colorado; a lot of quarterbacks in the country don’t make them. When he gets his chance – I’m pretty sure it’s coming soon – he’ll make sure he makes plays on the field when the opportunity presents itself.
Cam Ward, the first overall selection
The University of Miami graduate was the star candidate to be selected with the first overall pick. After totaling 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns last year, he was considered the best passer available.
In addition, the former Miami Hurricanes standout is in great athletic shape. Having practiced baseball and basketball, he has all the conditions to shine in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.
